From Board Work to Student Reasoning
Saturday September 19, 2026 11:10am - 12:00pm CDT
This session explores routines where students analyze correct and flawed sample solutions to consolidate their mathematical thinking in Building Thinking Classrooms environments. By centering reasoning over answer-getting, errors become key tools for discussion, reflection, and deeper understanding.

Seeing is Believing: Geometric Trig Identities
Saturday September 19, 2026 1:10pm - 2:00pm CDT
In this session, we provide geometric definitions for all six trig functions and connect secants, tangents, and chords with the secant, tangent, and sine functions. From these definitions we use geometry (e.g., Pythagorean Theorem, similar triangles) to generate trigonometric identities.

Feeding the Intuition of Calculus Students
Saturday September 19, 2026 2:10pm - 3:00pm CDT
Come experience how we can use food within the Calculus classroom to develop further understanding and intuition of mathematical principles.

Teaching Structure Before Symbols
Saturday September 19, 2026 3:10pm - 4:00pm CDT
Students often learn procedures before developing intuition for the structures symbols describe. Through hands-on modeling, participants explore how structure, pattern, motion, and constraint strengthen spatial reasoning, problem solving, and mathematical understanding.
